The Liguilla - World Cup Edition: The tournament that unites nations on the pitch!

The competitive spirit of football takes the world to the next level with La Liguilla - Mundialito Edition, the new special format that brings excitement, strategy, and international passion to the IF7KING LEAGUE. Get ready for a matchday where 12 teams will represent different nations in search of victory. We’ll tell you everything you need to know to understand this tournament and how the champion is determined.

🌍 What is the Mundialito?

Unlike the classic Liguilla with six local teams, this special edition features 12 teams, each representing a different nation. It’s a unique format that transforms each match into a duel of national teams with the goal of lifting the most coveted IF7 trophy.

Competition Format

The 12 teams are divided into two groups of 6:

  • Group A: 6 teams
  • Group B: 6 teams

Each team will play 5 matches within their group (round-robin), with 12-minute periods per match and a 3-minute break between matches, as in the traditional Liguilla.

⚖️ What happens in case of a tie in the group stage?

Occasionally, two or more teams may finish the group stage with the same number of points. To determine the final standings, we will use a tie-breaking system inspired by major international competitions organized by FIFA.

The order of the criteria will be as follows:

1️⃣ Points earned

The first criterion will always be the number of points earned during the group stage.

  • 🏆 Win: 3 points
  • 🤝 Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

The team with the most points will occupy the higher position.

2️⃣ Head-to-head record

If two teams finish with the same number of points, the result of their head-to-head match will be considered.

Example:

  • Team A → 10 points
  • Team B → 10 points

In their head-to-head match: Team A 2 - 1 Team B

➡️ Team A will be ranked ahead of Team B, regardless of the overall goal difference.

3️⃣ Goal Difference

If the head-to-head match ended in a draw or does not determine the final standings, the goal difference obtained during the entire group stage will be considered.

Goal difference is calculated as follows: Goals scoredGoals conceded

Example:

  • Team A

    • ⚽ 12 goals for
    • 🥅 8 goals against
    • 📊 Difference: +4
  • Team B

    • ⚽ 10 goals for
    • 🥅 8 goals against
    • 📊 Difference: +2

➡️ Team A will advance.

4️⃣ Most goals scored

If both teams are still tied, the team that scored more goals during the group stage will advance.

Example:

  • Team A

    • ⚽ 11 goals for
  • Team B

    • ⚽ 9 goals for

➡️ Team A will advance.

5️⃣ Fair Play

If the tie persists, the sportsmanship of each team throughout the tournament will be taken into account.

This criterion does not deduct points from the standings.

It is simply used to break ties between teams that remain tied.

Scoring System:

  • 🟨 Yellow Card: -1 point
  • 🟥 Red Card: -3 points

Example:

  • Team A

    • 🟨 1 Yellow Card
    • Total Fair Play: -1
  • Team B

    • 🟨 2 Yellow Cards
    • 🟥 1 Red Card
    • Total Fair Play: -5

➡️ Team A will be placed ahead, as they have accumulated fewer penalties.

6️⃣ Draw

If, after applying all the above criteria, the tie remains, the organizers will hold a draw to determine the final standings.

Although it’s a very rare situation, this criterion guarantees that a final ranking can always be established.

Every match counts, but so does every goal and every action on the field. A goal scored, a card avoided, or a direct confrontation can be the difference between qualifying for the next round… or being left out.

How do they qualify for the knockout stages?

After the group stage, the points obtained by each team are taken into account. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals.

Here’s how they’ll meet in the next round:

  • Semifinal 1: 1st in Group A 🆚 2nd in Group B

  • Semifinal 2: 1st in Group B 🆚 2nd in Group A

Both semifinals will be played in 12-minute matches.

The Grand Final

  • The winners of the semifinals will face off in the grand final to crown the Mundialito champion.

  • The losers of the semifinals will play a match for third and fourth place.

Only one will lift the trophy, but everyone will experience top-level football!
